Photovoltaic systems
Most notably due to the current legal situation in Spain, power generation with solar cells has become one of the most important renewable energy sources in the country. Initially, the most popular applications of this energy source were small installations on house and hall roofs dedicated to the clients’ own consumption. These days, large solar parks for selling the produced power on the energy market are a promising investment and are currently being constructed in various locations in Extremadura.

Solar thermal systems
In the light of new building codes, each newly-built construction in Spain has to be equipped with a facility for the exploitation of domestic hot water generated by the Sun’s energy. But also for existing buildings the investment in such a system can be profitable. Finally, mention deserves to be made of a new, upcoming development: The construction of thermal solar power plants operating with high-temperature collectors. Since for the efficiency of such a plant a quite high amount of hours of sunshine is required, this type of solar energy is mainly used in California, but a number of thermal solar power plants are currently being constructed in southern Spain.
